about

Houses (Remix) is a reimagined version of the song from 2015's saddest EP 'In Twenty Years We Won't Be Sad', and now with only 15 years to go until all that sadness is erased.

With a little help from my wonderful producer, musician and friend Stephen Craven, this has become a JAM.

'Houses' was written about my time living in Birmingham, the feeling of isolation and the impact this had on my mental health. I'm very pleased to be able to share this track with you and I'm very grateful to Steve for all his hard work bringing it to life.

As it is Bandcamp Friday, purchases are not subject to the usual fees and so I will be donating all proceeds from the sale of this to Reading Red Kitchen, a grassroots collective and solidarity project who provide hot meals, clothes and important items such as phones and toiletries to asylum seeking migrants in Reading.

Many of these such migrants are living in challenging conditions created by the Home Office and private profiteering company 'Clearsprings'. They are exploited by the hotels they are given accomodation in; their Asylum allowance is confiscated and they rely on plain pasta meals and small shampoo sachets, they can't afford to buy any essential items and are subject to both physical and mental health issues.

The issues are not just confined to Reading and the mass mistreatment of asylum seeking migrants is happening up and down the country whilst the general public are distracted by Johnson's tomfoolery, the ridiculous charade of Brexit and the giant cock-up of handling Coronavirus. In Britain the Human Rights of these people are being continually ignored and there is precious little in place to safeguard them. If you can please help to support grassroots organisations like this one to provide essential food, clothes, toiletries and technology to vulnerable people, by paying as much or little as you feel for the track, I'm sure we can make a little difference to their situation.

lyrics

Call out all the houses, tell them what you know,
Thought that you were happy but it is not so
Turn around.
And I always feel this way, and I always feel this way
And I always stay out late, and I always stay too late
Call out all the houses, these numbered streets are old,
You walked with good intentions, but the house was sold.
